“I wish I could take a break  😔 ...but I'm lucky to still have a job in this market”

Luck being the operative keyword here.
And it isn't the happy, uplifting kind of luck.

If you've ever survived a round of layoffs, you know that it's a more twisted kind of luck.
One that may feel like a breath of relief followed by a heavy knot in the stomach.
Fear about when this luck will run out.
Fear if you'll be next.

This fear and instability brought on by layoffs also creates the ripest conditions for Burnout.
I call it the Layoffs-Burnout catch 22.

And if you end up in that cycle, the only thing that'll actually work to get you out of Burnoutville is extended REST.

Not a 2 week vacation on the beach.
Not a coaching program.
Not a meditation retreat.
Not even therapy.

Yup. I said what I said.

I am not saying these are useless pursuits. Far from that.
These things can probably help you get in the mindset where you allow yourself to rest. But mark my words - All these interventions will fail if not combined with actual REST.

Rest that looks like you getting 💯 percent time away from a stressful work environment and a grinding pace.

But to rest, we need $$$$.

It's the unfortunate truth of the world we're living in. That's why I rang up my friend who's a seasoned financial advisor and asked:  What do you tell your clients who are burnt out and can't go on working anymore? 😣

How can we prepare ourselves financially for an extended break from work, whether it's to preserve our mental health or due to circumstances out of our control like layoffs?
